BURIAN RECEIVES HONORARY AWWA MEMBERSHIP

Steve Burian, PE, CEO of Advanced Engineering and Environmental Services, Inc. (AE2S), has been selected for Honorary Membership in the American Water Works Association (AWWA). The award is presented to individuals whose knowledge and accomplishments in the field of water supply entitle them to special recognition. Steve was presented with the award at the Annual AWWA Conference in San Diego, CA on June 15, 2009.

Steve began a three-year term on the AWWA Board of Directors at the age of 29, where he represented the North Dakota Section and served as the Board liaison to the newly formed Young Professionals Committee. He then served two three-year terms on the AWWA’s Technical and Education Council, the last three as the Chair of Council’s Education Committee.

Steve has over 19 years of experience in the water industry specializing in water and wastewater master planning, regional water development, and financial management. He has served as the Project Director and Technical Advisor for numerous water and wastewater projects, including the Red River Valley Water Supply Project, Rocky Boy’s / North Central Montana Regional Water System Project, Bismarck Water Treatment Facility Master Plan Update, Fargo Water and Wastewater Master Plans, Grand Forks Water System Comprehensive Concept Plan, St. Cloud Water Treatment Plant Master Plan, and Sioux Falls Future Water Supply Evaluation. He also serves as a technical advisor for the AE2S Financial and Asset Management Group.

Biography
Steve is originally from Bismarck, ND and earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Engineering from UND in 1990 and 1992, respectively. During graduate school, he co-founded AE2S, a civil and environmental engineering consulting firm, and has helped grow the firm from a two-person firm in a single location to a firm with 85 staff and eight office locations in the region.

Steve is a registered professional engineer in North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, and Minnesota. He has received several awards for his work in the water industry, including the North Dakota Society of Professional Engineer’s “Young Engineer of the Year Award” in 1997, the AWWA’s “George Warren Fuller Award” in 1999, and the North Dakota Rural Water System Association’s “Friend of Rural Water Award” in 2003. He also received the “Young Alumni Achievement Award” from the University of North Dakota in 2005.
